Charles Grant Unhappy About Being "Franchised"

In a related story, the sky was reported being "blue" this morning, the sun rose in the east, and monkeys still can't talk. But, they're working on that...As I've mentioned before, being the "franchise" player, or being a player slapped with the "franchise" tag guarantees the player an average of the top five yearly salaries at the position. Which means, Charles Grant us crying over an excess of $8 M dollars. To quote my good friend, Dr. Evil (we're tight, we go way back) "Boo, frickety hoo."

Why am I writing about this? Because, I created this blog and I can do whatever the f*ck I want to do...and, there's a story floating around that Charles has scheduled a meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, before you get your panties all wadded up, hear this: If the Bucs are to sign him (which they can still do, even though the Saints franchised him) and the Saints decide not to match the offer, the Buccaneers will be forced to compensate the Saints with two first round draft choices, which would include the #4 pick in this year's draft. This would not affect the Saints' current draft choices. This would be an addition to their draft picks for 2007.

Um, all I got to say about that is good riddance, Charles. You're replaceable. Hell, you can be replaced with either one of the first round draft choices the Saints would receive, if the Bucs were stupid enough to do this. However, my source, Rotoworld, reports that a trade might be a more likely scenario. In that case, the Saints should ask for two first round draft choices and call it a day. But, that's pretty outrageous. However, if the Bucs wanted him bad enough, then the Saints could make away like bandits on this one. The only drawback is that the Saints would now have to face Charles twice a year because the Bucs are in the NFC South with the Saints. So? The Bucs are in such bad shape right now...they could 3 Charles Grants and still not be good.

In other news, the Dolphins are thinking of persuing WR Terrance Copper. Please....take him. Sorry, Terrance.

So who should the Saints get with that #4 draft if Grant were to go? I'm thinking if a trade is worked out it should be for this year's picks only and get that 1st rounder along with a 3rd or 4th and a 6th. Just decimate their draft and give the Saints 3 young guys to build with.

Of course you could also go with a 1st, 2nd and a 5th or 6th. I like that better.

First off, if the Bucs want him that badly, then the Saints should definitely allow the two sides to work out a contract agreement first.

However, the Saints would then be responsible for paying up, contract-wise, on multiple first rounders. But, it might be better than overpaying for Grant.

Second, I'd take WR Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech, considering the Saints' need at WR. However, they could also choose to trade down with a team that needs a quarterback, like Houston, and grab a later first round pick to use on a quality linebacker. I'm not sure how deep the draft is at defensive end, but Ninkovich (from last year's draft) could move into the rotation.

Shit I'd take Calvin Johnson even with NO need at WR. That dude is a beast. That being said, I saw some stuff today on the Saints their free agents and those that they've signed. I've got to say that Payton and Co. seem to have abandoned the "Let's throw some poo on the wall and see what sticks" mentality of previous regimes. I would say he's a genius, but let's be serious, he's just making the same decisions that a majority of us would make if presented with the same problem. Unfortunately, Tom Benson hasn't been able to find someone like him, EVER. Any thoughts by you oh great nutsack?

Just read today that the Tampa GM said they had no interest in talking contract with Charles Grant, so it sounds like they are definitely wanting to talk trade first. You think that the Saints will still go after McCardell even if they draft Calvin Johnson o' great nutsack?

I read that the Bucs had Grant in for a visit to basically "host" him since he'll be a free agent next year. I think the Bucs really want him, and they might also be content with waiting a year to sign Charles.

By the way, thanks for reading...
